Technology, if we want to get specific here, is the actual application of scientific knowledge to create a certain thing, not just the invention or object itself I'm now questioning the criteria for what is considered a science fiction and how they fit political ideas into that She's trying to say that people need to expand what they consider technology and that its not always a complex machine or advanced computer The world as a giant machine breaking down Invention versus innovation How the worlds objects work through us Any object can become useful if effort and meaning is applied towards it Usefulness of objects is subjective? Giving objects a chance How everyday objects in our life may unintentionally influence us as designers The 'death' of objects as they are rendered useless Applying your own meaning to existing pieces of technology or creations Words having larger and more impactful meanings depending on chance circumstances How systems in place apply meanings to words and phrases Typography translates feelings and emotions through the shape of the words

What even is a website… What does it mean to make something that people will actually interact with The amount of care put into coding something is obvious in the way that the website presents itself to viewers The creator creates room for content Everything is inherently unfinished Websites as a room with an intended purpose Websites as a shelf-a rotating place for objects and interests Websites as a plant to let sit and grow and change Websites as a garden to focus on many different ideas and passions Websites as a puddle, a temporary place that will eventually cease to exist Websites as a thrown rock in water, something to make and let go of and not care too much about The web is what we make of it

Watching something you love devolve and be misused and turn into something basically unrecognizable from what is was has to be sad to see 'And now, we the architects of the modern web—web designers, UX designers, developers, creative directors, social media managers, data scientists, product managers, start-up people, strategists—are destroying it.'' Not acknowledging your possible role as one of accomplices to the destruction of the web itself Free open software yesss All interests were catered to. Information could truly be free: transverse borders, cultures and politics. Anyone could do anything with what they wanted to put online, could go into more murky waters there later on.. Capitalism strikes once again…finding ways to make money off of everything, using interactions as a source of profit and continuously using random people to collect data I do agree thats its harder now to naturally (or like unexpectedly/by chance) find information on the internet because of the way search engines work now, theres not a really good way to find vastly different topics in one sitting without making the effort to look these things up consecutively Reflecting on how much of my data is online for companies to use to reel me in LOL I love adblockers! I think now they've gone lax on their enforcement of the regulation on almost all platforms now, they don't really care about hate speech or censoring inappropriate content People can use the things you post/make public on the internet to their advantage Centralization of services, reminds me of how streaming services are basically turning back into cable, ie hulu disney hbo max bundle bs Gated community=caged community

With each app update and startup launch, computer mediated communication is reshaping the way the written word acts as a transmitter of information. New platforms are altering the temporal and spatial nature of conversation, and in turn affecting the ways we interact. The text of an instant message appears as a two dimensional object on a screen, yet its meaning is not static but rather intimately tied to the speed with which it was typed and the frequency with which the enter button is hit. Parasocialism Constant interactions

'The findings were alarming, to say the least. The analysis concluded that unless people took immediate action to counteract growth, global resources would be exhausted by the first few decades of the 21st century.' I wonder if they had climate change deniers way back then Very funny that the solutions then are just the problems we are facing now that are used for political gain by larger arguments about how to improve our country Speculative world future ooohhh They were self sufficient colonizers that got help from the people living there and didn't give anything back to them 'that many of our celebrated technological advancements would be unnecessary had humans not created an ecological crisis in the first place' we create our own problems because of our economic systems in place. ***Reminded me of this-[Friar Bartolomé de las] Casas recalled the reaction of the chief:[Hatuey], thinking a little, asked the religious man if Spaniards went to heaven. The religious man answered yes... The chief then said without further thought that he did not want to go there but to hell so as not to be where they were and where he would not see such cruel people. This is the name and honour that God and our faith have earned. Working with nature and not trying to dominate is or control the outcome Also makes me think of the failed coal mining industry in appalachia ‘By the late 1970s, the American communes had all but faded away. Many failed due to internal strife and the inevitable hierarchical struggles that come with coexistence.’ This just always happens unfortunately it doesn’t work out in the long run for some reason
